Executive Director: Alan Perlstein

Alan Perlstein became the Mid-West Energy Research Consortium's (M-WERC) second Executive Director and CEO effective April 16, 2013.

Mr. Perlstein was a founder of the organization and its first Chairperson and has remained active with the organization in his capacity on the M-WERC Board and the Board's Executive Committee as Chairperson Emeritus. He was most recently leading M-WERC's Organizational Development activities.

Mr. Perlstein draws upon 35 years of experience in ship building, power electronics, design development and program management for navy nuclear, ship controls, propulsion, and power distribution technology programs.  He has a successful track record for deployment of new technologies affordably and on schedule.

Alan has worked extensively at building effective Public Private partnerships.  His leadership has been recognized on the boards of the North West Side Community Development Corporation, the Milwaukee Work Force Investment Board, and as a founding member of M-WERC.  Alan is recognized as a passionate proponent for economic growth and work force development for Milwaukee and the surrounding regions.

Mr. Perlstein is a graduate of the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University, with a Masters in Business Administration.  He attended American University, with a Bachelor of Science and Honors graduate in Economics. 

Chief Financial Officer and Director of Strategic Planning: Elliot Berman

Elliot Berman serves as Deputy Executive Director of the Mid-West Energy Research ConsortiumElliot H. Berman is the Principal of Bowtie Advisors, a trusted advisor to its clients focusing on helping them formulate and implement practical, credible solutions to drive successful results for their privately owned businesses. Prior to establishing Bowtie Advisors, Mr. Berman served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary at Johnson Financial Group, Inc. a diversified financial holding company headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin.  In this position he provided advice and counsel to the board of directors, executive and senior management on a wide range of business, legal and regulatory matters.  At various times in his tenure he was responsible for the co-ordination of legal services to the company and its subsidiaries, for oversight of the company’s corporate compliance function, governance matters, shareholder relations, enterprise risk management, corporate security and loan review.  He also played a key role in the company’s acquisition and divestiture of various businesses.

Elliot has extensive experience in issues affecting business organizations and financial institutions; and has focused his career on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, partnering with clients to start new businesses, assisting businesses in improving their processes to promote growth, banking regulation, financial data processing and e-Commerce.  Elliot is a nationally recognized expert in compliance issues regarding anti-money laundering.  A frequent lecturer on corporate matters, financial institution law and e-Commerce issues, Elliot has spoken at numerous conferences.

Elliot serves on the boards of directors of several organizations including Payment Advisory Resource, Inc., and the Union for Reform Judaism.  He is a past member of the board of directors of the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) and the Wisconsin Automated Clearing House Association (WACHA).

Prior to joining Johnson Financial Group, Elliot was a member of the Corporate Law and Financial Institutions Practice Groups at Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. a law firm headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and he served as a senior attorney with Firstar Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Chief Operating Officer: Jeff Anthony

Jeff Anthony joined the Midwest Energy Research Consortium (M-WERC) in mid-2014 as the Director of Business Development and Energy Innovation Center (EIC).  In this capacity, Jeff is now responsible growing the membership and industry participation in M-WERC, as it expands its footprint to an eight state region in the Upper Midwest.  He also co-manages the WERCBench Labs start-up and entrepreneurial initiative of M-WERC, seeking to grow the engineering community in Southeastern Wisconsin and supporting new business growth in the energy, power, and controls sector.

Jeff’s industry experience covers a number of technologies and activities during his 25 years working at both for-profit and non-profit organizations.  Most recently, Jeff worked in the wind energy industry, working with electric utilities across the U.S. and leading the membership and business development activities for the wind energy industry trade association.  Prior to that, Jeff worked for Wisconsin Electric / We Energies in the nuclear power area, and later held roles in the R&D, transmission, and strategic planning functions there.

Mr. Anthony received his undergraduate degree in nuclear engineering from Purdue University and also has an MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. 

Director, Market Research and Development & Executive Director Emeritus: John Bobrowich

John C. Bobrowich, has over 30 years of executive level experience in the global energy industry with leading companies such as General Electric and Siemens. He was also the CEO and a co-founder of the highly successful Wisconsin power generation services start-up company, ReGENco. His background of collaborative efforts with Universities includes nearly 10 years of service on the UWM College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Industrial Liaison Board both as a member and as its chairman. His connections to Wisconsin state and local government are extensive and include various economic development activities and international trade missions with various Wisconsin Governors. Mr. Bobrowich is also involved in helping new companies form in Wisconsin through his involvement with the Midwest Capital Venture and Silicon Pastures Angel Funds.

Director, Technology Innovation: Bruce Biehoff

Bruce Beihoff, M-WERC Director of Technology Innovation,  has over 35 years of engineering and research experience in many primary industries and for some of the largest enterprises within these Industries, such as Rockwell Automation and EATON.   During these 35 years of engineering, technology development, and R&D management, he was awarded 44 patents, and seven major technical achievement / innovation awards. In addition, Bruce had the joy and privilege of leading diverse international teams developing a dozen major product families into production in five major industries.

Director, Public Affairs:  Joshua Morby

Joshua J. Morby, founder of JRM Advisers, has nearly 20 years of experience working with business leaders, members of the media and elected officials throughout the Midwest.

A graduate of UW-Stevens Point, Morby spent the early part of his career as a staff and freelancer writer for number of publications in Wisconsin including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Wisconsin State Journal.  He transitioned from journalism to politics when he served as the campaign press secretary for Ed Thompson’s historic bid for the governor’s office in 2002.  Mr. Morby then served as a spokesperson for Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle.

After serving in the Governor’s office, Mr. Morby began working as a public affairs adviser for number of companies specializing in the Midwest’s energy and economic development sectors.  He has successfully served the needs of Wisconsin’s largest utilities, ethanol and bio power producers, and manufactures in a variety of capacities.

Administration Coordinator:  Michael Hanson

Michael Hanson, M-WERC's Support and Administration Coordinator, has been with M-WERC since June 2012. Mike is a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.


M-WERC Membership Specialist: Owen Liebelt

Owen Liebelt goes to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and is working towards Bachelors of Science degrees in both Business Management, and Finance. Owen participates in a number of extracurricular activities including Colleges against Cancer, Phi Beta Lambda, and Track and Field.

Owen also works part time at Midwest Energy Research Consortium (M-WERC) as a Membership Specialist executing membership business development, event coordination, administrative, and logistical duties.
